The World’s First Private Supersonic Jet Has Sold for $120million

Nevada based company Aerion have officially authorised the sale of its AS2 Supersonic Business Jet announcing plans to have the AS2 aircraft certified in 2021 and to then enter service the following year.

The initial 40 launch customers are set to receive preferential pricing and other benefits for this first tranche of orders.

The maximum speed of the AS2 Supersonic Jet is Mach 1.5 compared to the Mach 1.0 of a transonic aircraft and the maximum range is expected to be approximately 5,400 nm.

Aerion Chairman Robert Bass says it’s another step forward for the company.

“We are offering a select group of forward thinking business aviation users the opportunity to fly faster and to make history with us as we reintroduce commercial supersonic flight,” Bass said.

Aerion is currently expanding its engineering and is working closer with the Airbus Group as the two further develop the AS2 Supersonic Jet.

Aerion Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Ernest Edwards says they will be having some very interesting discussion with travellers who place high value on their time.

“They can save three hours between Paris and Washington D.C. and six-and-a-half hours between San Francisco and Singapore,” Edwards said.
