The Young Women’s India Association and The Angeli Foundation brought together London’s elite to a summer evening of glamour, allure and charm that can only be described as a Midsummer’s Night Dream at Clubino, Baglioni Hotel Hyde Park Gate, London. Designer bags, sparkling dresses and award-winning smiles was the dress code of those in attendance who raised money and created awareness for YWIA and The Angeli Foundation. The successful evening was topped off fittingly, and on theme, with the rumblings of a late night monsoon, delighting and drenching party-goers (although the highlight for me was dancing with Sapna Sisodia my amazing sister, to our childhood favourite song; thanks to DJ Rajesh Patel for that!).
UK Chairperson for The Angeli Foundation Ratika Kapoor Puri set up the UK Chapter of The Angeli Foundation with the specific aim of creating awareness for the cause of female foeticide and crimes against women.
No stranger to Human Rights and equality issues, Ratika is an internationally acclaimed lawyer and partner at a highly successful UK law firm specialising in corporate and private UK immigration law and nationality issues.
The WIA is the oldest Asian charity in the UK whose vision is to empower socially and economically disadvantaged women and children through education and rehabilitation; the charities they choose to sponsor fit this criteria. In their own powerful words: “We believe that a women educated is a family educated, and a family educated is a society educated.”
The founder of The Angeli Foundation charity, Mrs Angeli Kapoor Puri, was herself present at the event and that it was very encouraging and heartening to have her support. She has done so much amazing work with the charity In India, which has not only changed the lives of some of these young girls and women, but also of their entire families and perhaps generations to come, by educating and empowering them with the skills to live a life of dignity.
