After a series of constant threats from the current house leader of minorities, Kevin McCarthy, the forty years old Somali-born Minnesota representative Ilhan Omar finally strikes back on her critics.
According to reports, the former House minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, during his campaign at the beginning of the year to be elected as the house speaker, had made an empty promise to his supporters and people that if he got elected, he would ‘remove Ilhan Omar from the house of foreign affairs committee.’
Omar Hits Back At McCarthy
As per Kevin, the decision to remove Omar from the foreign affairs committee is mainly due to her anti-American and anti-sematic remarks.
Interestingly, Omar is not the only one who is on Kevin’s list to get removed from the position once he ascends to the role of house speaker, as he mentioned that he would also remove two other democrats, including Californian Representative Adam Schiff as well as Representative Eric Swalwell both of whom are currently serving the house of the intelligence committee.
But, Omar’s recent unpopularity among her party and her remarks on the support of Palestine independence alongside other remarks marks her as a prime target of the republican party, which is set to take control of the house of representatives the following year after winning the midterm elections with a small margin.
On the topic of the removal of Omar from her current position, Kevin also had created a tweet on November 20th remarking that he had promised during his campaign, he would certainly keep his promise of removing Ilhan Omar from the foreign affairs committee as soon as he becomes the house speaker.
Why is Kevin McCarthy Again Assuring His Supporters Of The ‘Removal Of Omar’?
According to the latest reports, it is clear that the Republican party has finally managed to secure the highest number of votes during the midterm elections and was able to get the ‘House of Representatives or the lower chamber in control.
Even though they had won by a minimal margin, the republican party has recently nominated Kevin as their speaker.
Kevin is expected to take up the position as the house speaker in 2023 after the party ultimately ascends to control of the lower chamber.
As a result, Kevin has started reminding his supporters of the promise of removing Omar from her current position.
Does Kevin McCarthy Have The Power To Remove Omar?
Interestingly, even after becoming the house speaker in January of the following year, Kevin McCarthy won’t have the power to remove Ilhan Omar from her position in the ‘foreign affairs committee.’
Even though Kevin had made a clear threat to Omar about ‘stripping her of her position in her committee,’ in reality, Kevin needed the support and vote of the majority representative of the house to take action against Omar.
Thus, it is doubtful that Omar will be removed from her position on her committee.
Ken Martin, Minnesota DFL party chairman, has reportedly attacked Kevin for his public commitment to remove Omar from the committee.
How Has Ilhan Omar Reacted To The Threats?
According to Minnesota reports, Ilhan Omar has also criticized Kevin McCarthy as well as the republic party for their extensive use of racism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia to strike fear among the citizens of the United States. She also said the party targets her and her democratic party views in campaign ads.
During an interview, Omar also stated that the republicans have been after her since her election in 2019.
While criticizing Kevin McCarthy for promising to remove Omar from her position, she has also stated that her opponents’ efforts have resulted in multiple deaths and racist threats from across the country in recent years.
Omar said her removal from office wouldn’t improve the country’s present difficulties.
