The Henley Royal Regatta proudly proclaims itself as the best known Regatta in the world, and there are certainly no arguments in this corner. Drawing a vibrant crowd of socialites from all over the globe together for a summer-time spectacle of varsity rowing, unique events, corporate dinners and rip-roaring after parties, it’s a crucial cornerstone of Britain’s social calendar.
After 176 years, Henley remains a world-renowned centre for rowing, and this year’s event took place from Wednesday the 1st to Sunday the 5th of July.
Each summer the Henley Royal Regatta is held on Henley Reach, a naturally straight stretch of the river just to the north of the town.
The event became “Royal” in 1851, when Prince Albert became patron of the regatta.
There may be a programme of 200 rowing events to look forward to, but it’s the social activity away from the banks of the Thames that has caught our eye. Thursday the 2nd of July was one of the hottest days of the year so far. With the glow of the sun, and a perfect light breeze, it was surely the perfect day to enjoy a spot of racing at Henley.
Tickets are all sold out for this year’s Henley Royal Regatta but visit http://www.hrr.co.uk for details of 2016’s event.
