‘The Greatest in Russian Poetry’

On 6th June 1799, Moscow bares witness to the birth of the greatest Russian poet of all time; Alexander Pushkin. Many centuries after his death thousands of Russian poetry lovers across the globe still remember and celebrate his birthday. This year is no exception.

Today ‘Pushkin in Britain‘ is the largest forum for Russian poets living abroad” explains festival founder Oleg Borushko “the main event is the International Tournament for Russian poetry abroad with the sole objective of finding new talent and promoting Russian culture to the world.”

This year the festivities (13th festival) will take place in Central London starting on 5th June and running for a further 5 days. Both established and aspiring Russian poets will flock together to show their passion for Russian poetry and introduce their work in front of an expert jury from Moscow.

The poetic theme of the tournament is creative interpretation of one of Pushkin’s lines related to Britain.

The winner will receive a title of ‘King (Queen) of Russian Poetry abroad’, a trip to Japur Literature Festival (India) and a bronze statuette ‘Pushkin in Britain’ made by sculptor Klim Stepanov.
