It seems that China will have another theme park soon. Disney is already building an official Disneyland and now Universal Studios has unveiled plans to build its largest theme park in Beijing. The Beijing Universal park will be developed with the state-owned Beijing Tourism Group and is expected to be completed in 2019. The facility will be a whopping 2million square meters and is divided into stages. The first phase will be devoted to building the main entertainment complex and a hotel. The second part will be for the construction of a water park and five additional hotels to the resort.
The Universal Beijing will be the third Universal theme park in Asia after Singapore and Osaka, Japan. This new project promises to bring together elements of traditional Chinese culture with modern attractions to help draw national and international visitors. Universal have revealed that director Steven Spielberg, filmmaker of the Jurassic Park franchise and many other films under the brand will participate in the construction of the Beijing park. Rumours have flown that Spielberg will design certain areas of the complex but Universal has not given any specific details regarding attractions.
China is attracting US theme park operators, because for the size of its population it has very few high quality parks and citizens are increasingly willing to spend more on entertainment.
