The super rich’s wealth soars as new money floods in from abroad. £100 million is needed to make it into the top 1,000. The wealthiest 1,000 individuals and families now have a combined fortune of £547.126 billion, up from £249.615 billion in 2005, despite the world economy being gripped by punishing recession over much of the last decade.

Billionaires in the London capital include the country’s richest man, Warner Music mogul Len Blavatnik, worth £13.17bn.

Teddy Sagi, the gaming and software entrepreneur who bought up Camden Market also joined with a wealth of £2.53bn. The business Hinduja Brother’s wealth now stands at £13bn, made from oil, banking, property and media.

Where do the world's billionaires live?

There are 13 more billionaires in the UK than this time last year, with five of those coming to London. Steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and Chelsea Football Club chairman Roman Abramovich saw their fortunes fall by £1.05 billion and £1.23 billion respectively. Mark Scheinberg was a new entry into the exclusive London billionaires club with a £2.76bn fortune made from creating online gambling sites.

While the UK now has more billionaires per head than any other leading economy – one for every 547,000 Brits – the US still boasts the largest number of billionaires – 384
    – followed by China with 158.
The UK super rich outnumber those solely in mainland China however, which has 115 sterling billionaires.

It means the capital has more sterling billionaires than any other city in the world.
