No matter where you are in the world, drivers can cause problems. Whether its excessive traffic jams, or flaunting the rules of the road, cars can create issues in all of the world’s cities. In the affluent Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in London, authorities have clamped down on one of the biggest issues: speeding supercar drivers. On Twitter, the police service boasts triumphant tweets, with pictures of seized supercars, as they document their fight to tackle the drivers causing noise and disturbing residents. Much to the disappointment of the carparazzi. However, citizens from one particular part of the world are the most affected.

London is not only the UK’s capital city, it is an international hub. 37% of London’s population was born elsewhere. As a major investment hub, with fast links to Europe, it is no wonder that many of the world’s wealthy find a home among its cobbled streets. In fact, London is home to the most billionaires in the world. In particular, wealthy individuals from the Gulf countries have found a home in the UK capital – and so has their money. Gulf investments make up a large portion of London’s iconic skyline. The Shard is the tallest building in the EU, and is 95% owned by the Qatar Investment Authority. Canary Wharf, one of the world’s foremost financial centres, is also under control of the same group. Harrods, often the site of speeding super cars, is also owned by the authority.
@_AceAdam not if it’s driven sensibly. But our residents are complaining about excessive revving at lights and street racing.

The Borough is somewhat of a hub for the wealthy of the Middle East. The subject of documentaries such as Channel 4’s ‘Millionaire Boy Racers’, wealthy young men from the Gulf states arrive back in London for the summer season, and proceed to put the pedal to the metal. With the Borough’s recent clampdown on supercars, many may think it they who are being targeted.
